My idea for the FFA cup:
Round 1: Each region has one team each eg. Central Coast - Budgewoi. These teams then play off with other regions within the state. Top 4 of each state/territory progress.
Round 2: State league teams play in group stage matches with 4 regional teams. So NSW would have 25 teams. Top 2 of each group progress to a knockout stage.
Round 3: Knockout stage between those teams progressing from round 2. Until 4 remain from each state. These 4 progress to the national group stage.
Round 4: A-League teams are introduced to a group stage involving the whole country. 24 teams from state/regional playoffs + 8 A-League teams (last years league champions by pass this stage) = 32 teams. These teams are randomly divided into 4 groups of 8. Top 2 progress from each group leaving 8. These group matches are played at standalone carnivals.
Round 5: 8 + 1 (A-League team who by passed last round introduced) = 9 teams in a round robin. The top 4 of the round robin progress to next stage.
Round 6: 1 v 4 (semi 1) and 2 v 3 (semi 2), winners go to Grand final.
Grand Final: winner of semi 1 v winner of semi 2.
